1 A logic-sensitive triac for low-power AC switching
The STMicroelectronics Z0103MUF is a 1 A RMS (1 A) logic-sensitive triac in the Z0103 series, rated for 600 V off-state blocking voltage and housed in the SMBflat-3L surface-mount package. With a maximum gate trigger current of 3 mA and a logic-sensitive gate structure, this part is designed to switch AC loads directly from low-current logic outputs, microcontroller GPIO pins, or optocoupler drivers without an intermediate transistor stage. The 1 A continuous current rating suits small inductive loads like relays, solenoids, and valves, as well as resistive loads such as heaters and incandescent lamps up to roughly 100 W at 120 VAC or 200 W at 240 VAC, depending on ambient temperature derating. The 8 A / 8.5 A non-repetitive surge current capability provides margin for inrush from capacitive or cold-filament loads during turn-on.
Gate drive and triggering considerations
The 7 mA maximum holding current sets the minimum load current needed to keep the triac latched on after the gate pulse is removed — below this threshold the device will commutate off at the next zero-crossing, which is the intended behaviour for phase-control or burst-fire dimming circuits. Gate trigger current and holding current both increase at low temperature, so a design targeting -40°C operation should verify sufficient gate drive margin at the cold corner.
The SMBflat-3L package is a low-profile, 3-lead surface-mount package with flat leads, suitable for reflow soldering. The centre lead is the main terminal (MT2) and carries the load current; the PCB copper pad area under the package influences the thermal resistance and should be sized for the expected dissipation at 1 A RMS.
