8-channel high-side driver in PowerSSO-36
The STMicroelectronics VNI8200XP is an 8-channel high-side power driver from the VIPower™ series, switching N-channel MOSFETs with a typical on-resistance of 110 mOhm per channel. It handles loads from 10.5 V to 36 V and delivers up to 700 mA per output continuously. Housed in a 36-lead PowerSSO-36 EPD (exposed pad) package, the VNI8200XP sits on the board with the thermal pad soldered to a copper plane — the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance depends on the PCB copper area, not just the package itself.
SPI diagnostics and fault protection
Each channel reports its status via a 4-wire SPI interface — the microcontroller reads back open-load, over-temperature, and over-current flags without adding extra GPIO pins. The Power Good and Status Flag outputs give a hardware interrupt line for the MCU, bypassing the SPI poll loop when a fault clears.
No pin-compatible second source from another manufacturer is documented — the SPI protocol and PowerSSO-36 footprint are specific to this ST device.
