50 mOhm max Rds(on) — conduction loss anchor
The VN5E050MJ-E is a single-channel high-side N-channel power switch from STMicroelectronics' VIPower™ series. Its 50 mOhm maximum on-resistance sets the voltage drop and self-heating at a given load current — at 10 A the drop is roughly 0.5 V, which matters for the load's minimum operating voltage and the PCB copper area needed to keep the junction below 150°C.
The load supply range covers nominal 12 V and 24 V systems used in automotive body electronics, industrial PLC outputs, and general-purpose switched loads. No separate Vcc supply is required — the switch is self-powered from the load pin. Output current is rated to 19 A maximum, though the practical continuous current is limited by the package thermal impedance and ambient temperature. The PowerSSO-12 package has an exposed pad for heat sinking to the board.
Integrated fault protection — no external sense network
On-chip current limiting (fixed threshold), over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping protect the switch and the load. The auto-restart feature re-enables the output after a fault condition clears, which is useful for lamp or motor loads that draw inrush current. The input is non-inverting with a 1:1 input-to-output ratio — a logic high on the On/Off interface turns the switch on.
STMicroelectronics lists the VN5E050MJ-E as obsolete.
