1 kV blocking SCR for industrial power control
The STMicroelectronics TYN1008RG is a standard-recovery SCR (silicon-controlled rectifier) rated for 1 kV off-state voltage and 8 A RMS on-state current, housed in a TO-220-3 through-hole package.
On-state current and surge capability
With an 8 A RMS continuous rating and a non-repetitive surge capability of 84 A at 60 Hz (80 A at 50 Hz), this SCR can handle the inrush from capacitive loads or motor start-ups. The 1.6 V maximum on-state voltage (Vtm) sets the conduction loss floor — at 8 A RMS, expect roughly 13 W peak dissipation, which the TO-220 package can shed with a proper heatsink.
Gate trigger and holding current
The gate trigger current (Igt) is 25 mA max, with a 1.5 V max gate trigger voltage — a standard logic-level or optocoupler driver can fire it directly. The 45 mA holding current (Ih) means the SCR will stay latched once triggered as long as the load current stays above that threshold; below 45 mA the device will commutate off. The 5 µA off-state leakage at 1 kV is negligible for most designs.
The TO-220 package allows direct mounting to a heatsink with a mica insulator and thermal compound.
The TYN1008RG is marked Obsolete by STMicroelectronics. Buyers should evaluate pin-compatible SCRs in the TO-220 package with similar voltage and current ratings for new designs.
