1 kV blocking, 6 A RMS — what it handles
The TYN1006RG is a standard recovery SCR from STMicroelectronics rated for 1 kV off-state voltage and 6 A RMS on-state current, in a TO-220-3 through-hole package. It is designed for line-voltage phase control and rectification in 230 VAC and 400 VAC systems where a single thyristor handles the full wave. The 30 mA maximum holding current (Ih) means the device latches on with a moderate load current — below that threshold the SCR turns off at the zero-crossing, which is typical for mains-frequency phase-angle control.
Surge rating and thermal margin
Non-repetitive surge current is 70 A at 50 Hz and 73 A at 60 Hz (Itsm). This covers inrush from capacitive input filters, incandescent lamp loads, or motor start-up — but the junction must cool below 125°C between surge events. The 10 µA off-state leakage at 1 kV is negligible for most designs but rises with junction temperature.
Procurement must go through surplus or broker distribution. The TO-220-3 package is common, so traceable excess stock from franchised overruns is the preferred channel — avoid untraceable reels or loose parts without date-code continuity.
