50 V / 8 A standard-recovery SCR in TO-220
The TYN058RG is a standard-recovery SCR from STMicroelectronics, rated for 50 V off-state blocking and 8 A RMS on-state conduction (5 A average). Housed in a TO-220-3 through-hole package, it suits designs where a soldered, board-mounted thyristor is preferred over a press-fit or surface-mount alternative.
Gate drive and latching margins
Maximum gate trigger current is 25 mA with a 1.5 V gate trigger voltage — a standard logic-level or small-signal transistor can drive the gate directly without a separate driver stage. The 45 mA maximum holding current means the SCR stays latched once triggered until the load current drops below that threshold; in a resistive load, the supply must be interrupted or commutated to turn off.
Surge rating and thermal headroom
Non-repetitive surge current is 80 A at 50 Hz and 84 A at 60 Hz — this covers capacitor inrush or short-duration fault events without exceeding the junction's thermal capacity.
RoHS3 compliant (2011/65/EU plus amendment 2015/863), which covers the European regulatory requirement for lead-free and restricted-substance content.
