TL431ID — adjustable shunt reference, now obsolete
Its output is set with two external resistors to any value between the internal 2.495 V reference and 36 V, making it a staple for precision voltage regulation in power supplies, data converters, and isolated feedback loops.
The ±2.21% tolerance on the reference voltage sets the initial accuracy floor. The 36 V maximum output voltage covers 24 V industrial rails and 12 V automotive buses with margin.
For new designs, the TL431 family in an active package or a pin-compatible shunt reference from another supplier should be evaluated. Given the obsolete status, date-code consistency and lot traceability are critical; verification of marking and packaging against known-good TI production is recommended before accepting stock.
