800 V blocking for 230 VAC line switching
The T635T-8FP is an STMicroelectronics Snubberless™ Alternistor triac rated for 800 V off-state voltage. Its 6 A RMS on-state current suits continuous loads like small motors, heaters, or solenoid valves in industrial and appliance environments.
Gate drive requirements and trigger margin
With a maximum gate trigger current of 35 mA and gate trigger voltage of 1.3 V, the T635T-8FP requires a drive source capable of delivering at least 35 mA at the gate threshold.
Inrush and surge handling for load start-up
The non-repetitive surge current rating is 45 A at 50 Hz and 47 A at 60 Hz. This covers the inrush from a 60 W incandescent lamp or a 0.5 HP motor start, but a capacitive load (e.g., LED driver input) may exceed that peak — derate the load accordingly.
Snubberless™ design: no external RC needed
The Snubberless™ series is designed to commutate inductive loads without an external snubber network, saving two passive components and board area.
Package and thermal path: TO-220 Full Pack
The TO-220-3 Full Pack (TO-220FPAB) isolates the tab electrically, so no insulating washer is needed between the device and the heatsink. The full-pack plastic body has higher thermal resistance than a standard TO-220 — plan for a heatsink if the RMS current exceeds 3 A continuous at 25°C ambient.
