Product details

The STMicroelectronics T630-800W is a Snubberless™ alternistor triac rated for 800 V off-state voltage and 6 A RMS on-state current. The Snubberless™ construction means it can switch inductive loads — motors, solenoids, transformers — without the external RC snubber network that conventional triacs require, simplifying the BOM and board layout. It comes in the ISOWATT220AB-3 through-hole package, which provides isolation between the tab and the die for heatsinking without an insulating pad.

For existing BOM lines, the only supply channel is the independent distribution market — new-old-stock or surplus inventory. Availability is intermittent and depends entirely on what distributors hold in their remaining stock.

The 800 V off-state voltage (Vdrm) gives headroom for 240 VAC mains switching with derating for line transients. The 6 A RMS on-state current (It(RMS)) defines the continuous load it can handle — typical applications include AC motor speed controls, solid-state relays, and heating element drivers. The non-repetitive surge current rating of 80 A at 50 Hz and 84 A at 60 Hz (Itsm) tells you the inrush it can survive from a motor start or capacitor charge cycle. Gate trigger current (Igt) is 30 mA max, and gate trigger voltage (Vgt) is 1.3 V max — both compatible with standard logic-level drive from a microcontroller or optocoupler. The hold current (Ih) of 50 mA means the triac will stay latched once triggered as long as the load current stays above that threshold, which is typical for medium-power AC switching.

For continuous 6 A operation, a heatsink is required; the exact size depends on ambient temperature and airflow.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy T630-800W?

The T630-800W is obsolete, so it is not available through standard authorized distribution channels. We source it through independent distribution — new-old-stock and surplus inventory. Submit an RFQ and we will confirm availability and current pricing at quote time.

What is the difference between T630-800W and T635-800W?

Both are 6 A, 800 V Snubberless™ alternistor triacs in the ISOWATT220AB-3 package. The T635-800W is a different ordering code within the same family; the exact parametric differences (gate trigger current, hold current, or surge rating) would need to be checked against the respective datasheets. The package and footprint are identical, so it is a candidate for evaluation as a substitute.
