8 A in a 3.3 mm square — what the PowerFlat package buys you
The STPS8L30DEE-TR is an STMicroelectronics Schottky rectifier that delivers 8 A average forward current in an 8-PowerTDFN package with a 3.3x3.3 mm PowerFlat footprint. That current density — 8 A in a package barely larger than a 0805 resistor — comes from the exposed pad construction that conducts heat into the PCB copper plane. The 30 V reverse voltage rating and 500 mV forward drop at 8 A are the numbers that matter for the conduction loss calculation on a 12 V or 24 V rail.
500 mV Vf at 8 A — conduction loss floor
At 8 A forward current the maximum forward voltage is 500 mV. The reverse leakage at 30 V is 1 mA, which matters more at elevated junction temperatures where leakage doubles the standing loss in a continuously-blocking application.
