Dual 40 A Schottky in a single ISOTOP module
The STPS80H100TV from STMicroelectronics is a dual Schottky rectifier module housing two independent 100 V, 40 A diodes in a single ISOTOP package. It is designed for chassis-mount installation, bolted directly to a heatsink for high-current rectification, OR-ing, and freewheeling applications where two diodes share a common cathode or operate independently. The junction temperature ceiling is 150 °C, which sets the thermal derating curve for the module.
Forward drop and conduction loss at 40 A
At 40 A per diode, the 780 mV Vf produces 31.2 W of conduction loss per die. In a dual-module carrying 80 A total (40 A per leg), the combined dissipation is 62.4 W — all of which must be sunk through the ISOTOP baseplate to a heatsink. The chassis-mount interface demands a flat, greased surface and adequate clamping force to keep the junction temperature below the 150 °C maximum.
