60 V / 20 A Schottky pair in a TO-220 — what it handles
The STPS41L60CT is a dual Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics, with two 20 A diodes in a common-cathode configuration inside a single TO-220-3 through-hole package. Each diode is rated for a maximum reverse voltage of 60 V and delivers an average rectified current of 20 A, making the pair suitable for 40 A output stages in switch-mode power supplies and OR-ing circuits. The forward voltage is specified at 600 mV maximum at 20 A — this is the conduction loss per diode at full load, which drives the heatsink requirement.
600 mV forward drop — the thermal budget anchor
At 20 A per diode, a 600 mV forward drop means 12 W of conduction loss per die. With both diodes conducting, the total dissipation hits 24 W — the TO-220 junction-to-case thermal path must be managed with a heatsink rated for that power level. Reverse leakage is 600 µA at 60 V and 25 °C junction, but Schottky leakage rises exponentially with temperature. At the maximum junction temperature of 150 °C, leakage can increase by orders of magnitude, so the thermal design must keep the die below that ceiling to avoid thermal runaway.
That means procurement can place this part into a BOM without planning for a forced redesign or a surplus-channel scramble.
