What this Schottky pair delivers on the rail
The STPS41L45CG-TR from STMicroelectronics is a dual Schottky rectifier in a common-cathode configuration, housed in a D2PAK (TO-263) surface-mount package. Each diode handles 20 A of average rectified current with a forward voltage drop of 530 mV at that current, keeping conduction losses manageable in power supply output stages and OR-ing circuits.
At 20 A per diode, the 530 mV forward drop produces about 10.6 W of dissipation per diode. In a common-cathode pair running 40 A total, that is over 21 W in the package. Without adequate thermal management, the part will hit thermal shutdown or exceed the junction rating under sustained full load.
D2PAK rework and mounting notes
The D2PAK (TO-263-3) is a surface-mount package with a large exposed tab on the bottom. It reflows well with a standard lead-free profile, but the tab's thermal mass means the hot-air station needs a few extra seconds to get the solder fully liquid. The package has a clear orientation notch.
For BOM planning, this is a low-risk line item — no last-time-buy pressure, no forced redesign to a substitute.
