Dual Schottky in a D2PAK – what this part is
The STPS40SM100CG is a dual Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics, configured as a common-cathode pair in a single D2PAK surface-mount package. Each diode is rated for 20 A average rectified current and a 100 V reverse voltage, with a forward voltage drop of 810 mV at 20 A. The fast-recovery characteristic (≤500 ns, >200 mA Io) suits it for high-frequency switching power supplies and output rectification stages where Schottky's low Vf and fast switching reduce losses.
If your design is still in development, consider qualifying a current-production dual-Schottky in D2PAK from ST's STPS40 family or a pin-compatible alternative before the remaining stock dries up.
20 A per diode, 100 V – thermal and layout notes
At 20 A per diode the forward drop hits 810 mV, which works out to about 16 W per diode in conduction loss at full rated current. The common-cathode configuration means the two anodes are separate; the shared cathode is the tab, which is usually tied to the output rail in a center-tapped rectifier or to ground in a negative-rail OR-ing circuit. Reverse leakage at 100 V is 45 µA – negligible at room temperature, but it doubles roughly every 10°C rise, so budget for it at high junction temperature.
