60 V, 20 A per diode — the conduction-loss ceiling
The STPS40M60CR is a dual Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics, pairing two 20 A diodes in a common-cathode configuration within a single TO-262 I2PAK through-hole package. Each diode is rated for 60 V reverse voltage and delivers an average rectified current of 20 A, with a maximum forward voltage of 595 mV at that current. The fast recovery time — under 500 ns — qualifies it for switching power supplies and high-frequency rectification stages where standard PN-junction diodes would incur excessive switching losses.
Common-cathode pair in a through-hole power tab
The common-cathode configuration means the two anodes are separate pins while the shared cathode connects to the package tab — a layout that suits center-tap full-wave rectifiers or OR-ing diode stages in redundant power feeds. The TO-262 (I2PAK) through-hole package with long leads is designed for bolted-down thermal management: the tab carries the cathode and can be screwed to a heatsink, while the leads solder into the board. Maximum junction temperature is 150°C, so the thermal path from tab to ambient must keep the die below that ceiling at full 20 A per diode.
Reverse leakage and the 60 V rail
At the 60 V maximum reverse voltage, reverse leakage is specified at 110 µA. Leakage increases with junction temperature toward 150°C — a factor to budget for in high-ambient enclosures.
