Conduction loss and thermal budget at 3 A
The STPS3L60UY is a 60 V, 3 A Schottky rectifier in the DO-214AA (SMB) surface-mount package. At 3 A forward current the maximum forward voltage is 620 mV — that is 1.86 W conduction loss at rated current, which the SMB package must sink through the board copper. The 150 µA reverse leakage at 60 V is a room-temperature figure; leakage roughly doubles every 10°C rise, so at 150°C junction the leakage power can approach the conduction loss and must be included in the thermal budget. The junction temperature range is -40°C to 150°C, which covers the full automotive ambient band including under-hood soak-back.
Recovery and switching reality
The speed classification is Fast Recovery ≤500 ns at >200 mA, but this is a Schottky — majority-carrier conduction means there is essentially no stored charge to recover. The listed speed spec is a catalog placeholder; the real switching advantage over a PN-junction rectifier is the absence of reverse-recovery current, which eliminates the turn-on loss spike in the upstream FET and reduces EMI. For a 3 A diode switching at 100 kHz or below, the STPS3L60UY's recovery is not the limiting factor — the package inductance and PCB layout are.
