60 V, 3 A Schottky — conduction loss and switching speed
The STPS3L60QRL is a 60 V, 3 A Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics in a DO-15 axial package. Its 620 mV forward voltage drop at 3 A keeps conduction losses low, which matters most when the diode carries continuous current in a power supply output or freewheeling path. The fast recovery time of ≤ 500 ns means the reverse recovery charge is small enough to avoid significant switching loss in 50–60 Hz line rectification or low-frequency flyback converters. At higher switching frequencies, the Schottky barrier itself eliminates minority-carrier storage, so the <500 ns spec is conservative — the practical recovery is faster.
Ratings that set the thermal and voltage budget
Reverse leakage is 60 µA at 60 V rated reverse voltage. The 3 A average rectified current rating assumes resistive or inductive load with proper heatsinking. In a capacitive-input filter application (common in off-line supplies), the diode sees high peak currents — the average rating still holds, but the thermal margin shrinks because the conduction losses are I²R times the duty cycle.
Package and mounting — DO-15 axial
The DO-204AC (DO-15) axial package is a through-hole format with 0.032-inch diameter leads. It sits upright or bent flat against the board. The anode is the banded end. For high-vibration environments, the leads should be clinched or the body secured with a dab of adhesive.
