3 A Schottky for low-voltage rails — what the ratings mean
The STMicroelectronics STPS3L25S is a 3 A, 25 V Schottky rectifier in a DO-214AB SMC package. Its 490 mV forward drop at the full 3 A rating keeps conduction losses low, which matters when you are rectifying a 5 V or 12 V rail and every 100 mV of drop eats into efficiency. The 25 V reverse voltage limits it to low-voltage DC applications — think secondary-side rectification in a flyback converter, OR-ing diodes in a redundant supply, or reverse-polarity protection on a 12 V bus. The SMC footprint is larger than a SOD-123, so it sheds heat better through the PCB copper, but you still want a decent pad area under the part.

Hand-soldering the SMC package
The DO-214AB SMC is a surface-mount package with large end-cap terminations. Just pre-tin one pad, position the diode, reflow that joint, then solder the other side. The SMC body is about 7 mm long, so it takes up more board space than a SOD-123FL, but the extra copper area helps with thermal spreading. No special baking needed unless the reel has been open past the MSL floor life.
