30 A, 120 V Schottky — output rectifier for power supplies
The STPS30SM120STN is a 30 A, 120 V Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics, housed in a TO-220AB narrow-lead through-hole package. It is designed for high-current output rectification in switch-mode power supplies, freewheeling diodes in DC-DC converters, and reverse-polarity protection circuits where low forward voltage drop and fast switching are required.
Forward drop and thermal budget at 30 A
The forward voltage is specified at 950 mV maximum at 30 A — this is the conduction loss that sets the heatsink requirement. Reverse leakage is 275 µA at 120 V rated reverse voltage — typical for a high-voltage Schottky at elevated temperature. Leakage doubles with every 10 °C rise above 25 °C, so the thermal design should account for the leakage contribution to the total power dissipation at high junction temperatures.
STMicroelectronics lists the STPS30SM120STN as obsolete.
