120 V, 30 A — where this Schottky fits the BOM
The STPS30SM120SFP is a 120 V, 30 A Schottky rectifier in a TO-220 Full Pack (TO-220FPAB) through-hole package. The 120 V reverse voltage and 30 A average forward current place it in output rectification for 48 V to 72 V DC buses, OR-ing diodes in redundant power supplies, and freewheeling diodes in motor-drive or inverter stages where the Schottky's low reverse-recovery charge cuts switching losses.
Forward drop and thermal reality
At 30 A the maximum forward voltage is 950 mV, which means conduction loss hits 28.5 W at full rated current. The TO-220 Full Pack isolates the tab electrically — no insulator pad needed — but the junction-to-case thermal path still demands a heatsink sized for that dissipation to keep the junction at or below 150 °C. The 275 µA reverse leakage at 120 V is typical for a 120 V Schottky at room temperature; leakage doubles with every 10 °C rise, so the thermal design must account for the leakage contribution at the operating junction temperature.
Package and mounting — TO-220 Full Pack
That saves assembly time and avoids the thermal resistance of an added insulator, but the package itself has a higher junction-to-case thermal resistance than a standard TO-220. The three leads are formed for through-hole soldering; the centre lead is the cathode. Mounting torque on the screw should follow the datasheet recommendation to avoid cracking the epoxy body.
It is ROHS3 compliant and part of the ECOPACK®2 series. For BOM planning, there is no last-time-buy pressure.
