60 V / 20 A Schottky — tab-mounted power rectifier
The STMicroelectronics STPS20SM60D is a 60 V, 20 A Schottky barrier rectifier in a TO-220AC through-hole package. Its 630 mV forward voltage at 20 A keeps conduction losses manageable for a 20 A rail, and the fast recovery (< 500 ns above 200 mA) suits moderate-frequency rectification in switch-mode power supplies and freewheeling diodes.
Parametric profile — what the ratings mean on a 20 A rail
At 20 A forward current the 630 mV Vf produces 12.6 W of conduction loss — the TO-220 tab must be bolted to a heatsink sized for that dissipation at the ambient temperature. The 60 V reverse rating gives a 25 % derating margin on a 48 V bus, adequate for most non-automotive supplies. Reverse leakage is 85 µA at 60 V, which rises with junction temperature; the 150 °C maximum junction temperature sets the thermal trip point.
