Its low forward voltage of 550 mV at 10 A makes it suited for high-efficiency power rectification, OR-ing diodes in redundant power supplies, and freewheeling diodes in low-voltage DC-DC converters. The TO-220-3 Full Pack (TO-220FPAB) package provides full isolation from the heatsink, simplifying thermal management in through-hole designs.
Lifecycle reality — obsolete and how to source it
For existing BOM lines, procurement must turn to the surplus and independent distribution channel.
The 550 mV forward drop at 10 A is low for a Schottky of this current class, keeping conduction losses manageable in high-current paths. Reverse leakage is 700 µA at 40 V, typical for a 40 V Schottky; expect it to rise with junction temperature.
Package and mounting — the isolated TO-220FPAB
The TO-220-3 Full Pack (ST's TO-220FPAB) is a fully molded, through-hole package with no exposed metal tab. This eliminates the need for an insulating washer and grease when bolting to a chassis or heatsink, saving assembly time and improving thermal coupling directly through the plastic back. The 3-pin common-cathode arrangement has pins 1 and 3 as the anodes and pin 2 as the common cathode.
