What this dual Schottky does in the circuit
The STPS16170CR is a dual Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics, configured as a common-cathode pair in a single TO-262-3 (I2PAK) through-hole package. Reverse leakage is 15 µA at the 170 V blocking voltage. The junction temperature maxes out at 175°C. This part is typically used in high-frequency output rectification for switch-mode power supplies, freewheeling diodes in motor drives, and OR-ing diodes in redundant power systems where the Schottky's low forward drop and fast recovery (under 500 ns) reduce switching losses.
STMicroelectronics lists the STPS16170CR as obsolete. If you are in the design phase, plan for a last-time-buy or a validated alternative; do not lock a new board into an obsolete diode.
Package and mounting — through-hole I2PAK
The STPS16170CR comes in a TO-262-3 long-lead package (I2PAK, TO-262AA). It is a through-hole mount, which simplifies manual assembly and rework compared to surface-mount power packages. The I2PAK tab is the common cathode — plan the heatsink attachment accordingly. The tube shipping medium is fine for low-volume production runs.
