The STPS16170CB-TR is a dual Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics, wired as a common-cathode pair in a single DPAK (TO-252) package. Each diode is rated for 170 V reverse voltage and 8 A average rectified current, making this part a direct fit for output rectification in medium-voltage switchmode supplies, flyback diodes in DC-DC converters, and OR-ing applications in redundant power rails.
Forward drop and switching speed — conduction vs recovery trade-off
At 8 A forward current the maximum forward voltage is 920 mV — typical for a 170 V Schottky at this current density. The fast-recovery classification (≤ 500 ns, > 200 mA) means it switches faster than a standard pn rectifier but is not a hyper-fast SiC or GaN diode; expect clean turn-off in 100–200 kHz hard-switched converters without excessive ringing. Reverse leakage is 15 µA at the rated 170 V blocking voltage.
