What the 15 A, 45 V ratings mean for the power rail
The 15 A average rectified current (Io) is the continuous load it can carry with the tab bolted to a heatsink; the 45 V reverse voltage gives headroom on a 24 V rail and still covers a 36 V battery bus with margin. Forward drop hits 840 mV at 30 A pulsed — that is the conduction loss floor when the diode is carrying surge current, not the steady-state figure.
Switching speed and thermal ceiling
Junction temperature rated to 175°C max — that is a full military-grade junction limit, meaning this diode can sit on a hot heatsink in a cramped industrial supply without derating the current prematurely. Reverse leakage is 200 µA at 45 V and 25°C; expect it to climb with junction temperature, so the leakage power contribution matters in the thermal budget above 125°C.
Package and field-service fit
TO-220AC with a single mounting hole — one screw through the tab into a heatsink, and the anode and cathode are the two leads. Orientation is obvious: the tab is the cathode (output) side, the metal face is electrically common with the cathode. Through-hole mounting means you can swap it on site with a soldering iron and a desoldering pump — no hot-air station, no preheater. It is in the kit.
