What the 30 V / 1 A rating means for the board
The STPS130A is a 30 V, 1 A Schottky rectifier in a DO-214AC (SMA) surface-mount package — a common choice for low-voltage DC rail rectification, polarity protection, and freewheeling diode duty in 5 V and 3.3 V power paths. The 550 mV forward voltage at 1 A is the conduction loss per amp — low enough to keep the junction temperature under the 150°C max in a typical 1 A continuous load, but the 10 µA reverse leakage at 30 V means the diode will self-heat more than a PN junction in high-temperature environments.
Switching speed — why the 500 ns recovery matters
In a 12 V to 5 V buck converter running at 200 kHz, this diode handles the catch current cleanly. The 30 V blocking margin is enough for the reflected voltage on the secondary side of a flyback supply up to about 24 V input.
Package and footprint — DO-214AC (SMA) reality
The SMA body is a standard footprint — same as the SS12, SS14, and dozens of other 1 A Schottkys. The cathode band is on the body; the tab is the cathode. For 1 A continuous, a 1-inch square of 1 oz copper on the cathode side keeps the junction temperature within the 150°C max at 25°C ambient. Derate above that per the datasheet curve.
