60 V / 10 A Schottky — the ratings that size the rail
The STPS10M60SFY is an automotive-grade Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics, rated for 60 V reverse voltage and 10 A average forward current. That 60 V ceiling gives about 20 % headroom on a nominal 48 V bus or 12 V system transients — enough for most load-dump and inductive-kick events in an automotive 12 V or 24 V environment. The 10 A continuous rating is the average rectified current; peak repetitive current can be higher, but the thermal limit is set by the 175°C junction temperature.
AEC-Q101 — the automotive gate
That qualification is non-negotiable for any ECU, sensor module, or power distribution box that goes into a production vehicle. Without it, the Tier-1 or OEM will reject the part at the PPAP stage.
TO-277A (SMPC) — footprint and thermal pad
The STPS10M60SFY comes in a TO-277A (SMPC) surface-mount package, a 3-lead PowerDFN format. At 10 A and 650 mV Vf, the conduction loss is about 6.5 W; the board copper and any forced airflow determine whether that stays within the 175°C junction limit.
Forward drop and speed — the switching loss trade-off
The maximum forward voltage is 650 mV at 10 A, which is typical for a 60 V Schottky in this current class. The recovery speed is rated as fast recovery ≤500 ns at >200 mA — that is the Schottky's natural majority-carrier speed, not a reverse-recovery charge number. For a 100–200 kHz switching supply, the turn-off loss is negligible; at higher frequencies the junction capacitance starts to matter more than the recovery time.
It is ROHS3 compliant and part of the ECOPACK®2 series, which means the mould compound and plating meet the EU RoHS exemption limits. The base product number is STPS10, so any future variant changes will track through that base.
