The 5 A average current per diode (10 A total for the pair) suits output rectification in medium-power switch-mode supplies, OR-ing diodes in redundant power architectures, and freewheeling clamps in motor drives where the voltage rail exceeds 48 V.
920 mV forward drop — the loss trade-off
Forward voltage sits at 920 mV at 5 A per diode — higher than a low-voltage Schottky, but that is the price of the 170 V blocking capability. The 10 µA reverse leakage at 170 V is typical for this voltage class and junction size. The fast recovery characteristic (≤ 500 ns, > 200 mA) is inherent to Schottky technology — no stored charge, so switching losses stay low in continuous-conduction-mode converters.
