525 V N-channel in a TO-220 — what you're getting
Housed in a TO-220-3 through-hole package, it targets offline switching supplies, flyback converters, and PFC stages where the 525 V rating gives margin over a 400 V DC bus.
ST lists the STP5N52K3 as obsolete. For BOM lines that still call out this exact code, procurement goes through independent distribution channels — surplus stock, last-time-buy inventory, or broker-sourced new-old-stock.
Input capacitance measures 450 pF at 100 V drain-source, giving a reasonable Ciss figure for the voltage class. The 4.5 V gate threshold maximum at 50 µA drain current means the device needs a full 10 V gate drive to achieve the rated on-resistance — logic-level drive at 5 V will not fully enhance the channel.
The ±30 V maximum gate-source rating gives good noise margin on the gate drive line.
