650 V, 20 A — the switching power supply workhorse
Its 650 V drain-to-source breakdown voltage provides margin on a 400 V DC bus typical of power-factor-correction stages and offline flyback converters. A gate driver with 1 A to 2 A peak current can switch this device in the 50–100 kHz range without excessive crossover loss.
Through-hole TO-220 — board-level considerations
Housed in a TO-220-3 through-hole package, the STP20NM60A is intended for manual or wave-solder assembly. The tab is the drain terminal, and the metal back provides a low-thermal-resistance path to a heatsink. For rework, the standard TO-220 lead form is compatible with most heatsink clips and mounting holes.
Temperature grade — industrial and automotive environments
The wide range also covers cold-start conditions down to -55°C without derating the drain current below the 20 A continuous rating.
