500 V, 14 A N-channel — the TO-220FP full-pack MOSFET for offline power stages
The STP14NK50ZFP: The TO-220-3 Full Pack package provides full isolation from the heatsink — no separate insulating washer or pad is needed, which simplifies assembly and reduces thermal interface resistance in high-voltage offline designs.
At 14 A the Rds(on) will be higher due to the current-dependence of the channel resistance; budget conduction losses using the normalised curve from the datasheet. The 92 nC total gate charge at 10 V means a gate driver delivering 1 A can switch the FET in roughly 92 ns — fast enough for 100 kHz hard-switched converters without excessive cross-conduction losses. Input capacitance is 2000 pF at 25 V Vds.
Temperature grade and package — where this part fits
Maximum power dissipation is 35 W at case temperature, derated above 25°C. The TO-220FP full-pack package has a fully isolated tab — the mounting hole is electrically neutral, so the heatsink can share a common ground plane without an insulating pad.
