40 V, 120 A N-channel — obsolete but still in demand
Obsolete — plan for a replacement
STMicroelectronics lists the STP120NF04 as Obsolete. This means the manufacturer no longer produces the part, and no last-time-buy window remains open.
The 120 A continuous drain rating is a package-limited figure at 25°C case temperature; real-world derating applies as junction temperature rises. The 40 V Vdss gives about 20% headroom on a 24 V nominal rail, but on a 36 V bus the margin is tight — verify avalanche ruggedness if inductive loads are present. Gate charge of 150 nC at 10 V means the driver must source enough peak current to switch cleanly at the target frequency.
