500 V N-channel MOSFET — the TO-220FP advantage
NRND — plan your last-time-buy now
STMicroelectronics lists the STP11NK50ZFP as Not Recommended for New Designs (NRND).
Gate charge and switching — 68 nC at 10 V
This is typical for a 500 V, 10 A planar MOSFET — the driver must supply that charge each switching cycle, so the gate drive source and sink current, plus the switching frequency, set the actual gate-drive power loss.
Temperature range and thermal limits
Maximum power dissipation is 30 W at case temperature, which means the TO-220FP's thermal resistance to the heatsink must be managed — the isolated tab helps, but the package still needs a good thermal interface and adequate heatsink area for continuous operation near the current limit.
