What the STM32L496AEI6 brings to the board
The 169-UFBGA (7x7 mm) package keeps the footprint tight, but the 136 I/O lines demand careful fanout — plan for at least four signal layers if you use most of the GPIO. On the connectivity side, you get CAN, USB OTG, QSPI, SAI, and multiple UART/SPI/I²C ports, so it can serve as the hub in an industrial gateway or a multi-sensor data logger.
The Cortex-M4 core runs at 80 MHz with a single-precision FPU. The 320 KB SRAM supports double-buffered ADC data or a small display framebuffer.
It is not qualified to AEC-Q100, so for under-hood or safety-critical automotive use you would look at the STM32L4Ax automotive-grade variants.
If you need a second-source hedge, the STM32L496xx family shares the same pinout across density options, so a drop-in swap to a sibling with more or less Flash is possible without a board spin.
