80 MHz Cortex-M4 with FPU — what the core speed buys you
The STM32L471ZEJ6TR is an STMicroelectronics STM32L4 series 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 MCU with a single-precision FPU, clocked at 80 MHz. That core speed, combined with the DSP instruction set, handles real-time control loops and sensor fusion without an external DSP.
Supply range and temperature — industrial and battery-fit
If your design needs 105°C or AEC-Q100, look at the STM32L4A5 or STM32L4R5 series instead.
144-UFBGA — footprint and reflow considerations
Housed in a 144-UFBGA (10x10 mm) package, this is a fine-pitch BGA with 0.5 mm ball pitch. The 114 I/O count gives plenty of GPIO for parallel displays, external memory buses, or sensor arrays.
Peripherals and connectivity — what is on the bus
The peripheral set includes CANbus, I2C, SPI, USART, QSPI, SAI (audio), and SWPMI (single-wire protocol). Brown-out detect and a watchdog are built in, so external supervisor ICs are optional for most applications.
For dual-sourcing resilience, the STM32L4 series includes pin-compatible siblings with different memory densities — the STM32L476 and STM32L486 share the same footprint and peripheral map, differing mainly in SRAM size and crypto accelerator presence.
