What this STM32L431KBU3 brings to the board
The 32-UFQFN exposed pad package measures 5x5 mm.
80 MHz Cortex-M4 with FPU — the performance jump from the L1 series
Compared to the STM32L151CBU6A (Cortex-M3 at 32 MHz), this part runs at 80 MHz and adds DSP instructions and an FPU.
Active status — no LTB pressure for new designs
The base number STM32L431 covers multiple Flash/RAM and package variants, so if you need more memory or a different footprint later, the family gives you an upgrade path without changing the core architecture.
Peripheral mix and supply range
The part includes CANbus, I²C, SPI, QSPI, SAI, and UART/USART — enough for industrial fieldbus or sensor hubs. Brown-out detect and DMA are built in, so you can save an external supervisor or offload data transfers from the core. Ten 12-bit ADC channels and two 12-bit DAC channels cover analog front-end needs for most mixed-signal boards.
Field-fit note: package and orientation
No lab, no bench — if you are swapping this on site, a hot-air station with a fine nozzle and a preheat plate is the minimum; a soldering iron alone will not get the pad wet.
