The Cortex-M0+ core delivers the lowest power-per-MHz in the Cortex-M family while retaining a single-cycle multiplier and a 32-bit ALU — enough throughput for sensor fusion, battery-monitoring, and simple control loops without the overhead of a Cortex-M3 or M4.
Memory sizing and the embedded EEPROM advantage
The 2 KB EEPROM (2K x 8) is a genuine hardware EEPROM array — not emulated Flash — so it handles byte-wise writes at full endurance without wear-leveling overhead. That saves an external serial EEPROM on the BOM and the I²C/SPI port it would occupy. The 8 KB SRAM is tight for buffered USB or complex protocol stacks; designs that need larger RAM should look at the STM32L0 line's higher-density variants.
Peripheral set and USB device mode
The USB peripheral supports device mode — confirmed by the USB entry in the connectivity list — which makes this MCU a candidate for USB-to-serial bridges, HID-class data loggers, or battery-powered USB peripherals. The 37 I/O lines in the 48-LQFP package leave enough headroom for a small display, keypad, and sensor interface alongside the USB connection.
