The 1 KB EEPROM is a genuine hardware EEPROM, not emulated Flash, so you can store calibration constants or configuration bytes without wearing out a Flash sector.
The 48-UFQFPN package with exposed pad helps pull heat out when the core is running flat-out at 32 MHz, though in practice most designs will clock down to save power.
