170 MHz Cortex-M4F with FPU — the performance anchor
The 100-LQFP package (14x14 mm body) exposes 86 general-purpose I/O, enough to capture multiple encoder channels, gate-driver PWM inputs, and parallel sensor buses without a port expander.
Analog density: 42 ADC channels and 7 DAC outputs
The on-chip data-converter count is the feature that justifies the 100-pin package: 42 analog inputs multiplexed into the 12-bit successive-approximation ADC, plus seven independent 12-bit DAC channels. For a three-phase motor drive with current sensing on each phase leg plus DC-link voltage and temperature monitoring, you can keep all measurements on-chip and avoid an external analog mux. The seven DACs can serve as comparator thresholds, analog reference levels for external sensor excitation, or waveform-generation outputs in a multi-axis servo application.
The QSPI interface supports memory-mapped access to external NOR Flash or PSRAM, useful when the 512 KB internal Flash is tight for a combined bootloader + application image. Brown-out detect, POR, and a windowed watchdog are integrated, which simplifies the supervisory circuitry on the BOM.
The laser-etched date-code and marking on each tray-lot can be traced back to ST's authorized channel for provenance verification.
