Frequently asked questions

Does the 105°C ambient rating handle a control cabinet running at 85°C?

The spec rates -40°C to 105°C TA. Operating at 85°C leaves 20°C margin to the upper limit — well within the safe operating range. No derating is required on the 128KB RAM or the 24-channel ADC at that ambient. Thermal characterization of the actual PCB and package is always the correct step for any production qualification, but the datasheet limit is not a derating trigger at 85°C.

Can I drop this into an existing LQFP-144 footprint?

No. The STM32F446ZEJ7TR uses the 144-UFBGA package — ball-grid, not leaded. It is not footprint-compatible with any LQFP-144 variant of the same die. A board designed for LQFP-144 requires a re-layout to accept this part. The 114 I/O count is available but routed through BGA fan-out that changes signal routing significantly compared to the leaded package.
