24 MHz Cortex-M3 with 512 KB Flash — the value-line workhorse
It is built for cost-sensitive control applications that need a mature, widely-sourced architecture: motor drives, industrial sensors, building automation panels, and human-machine interfaces. The 100-LQFP package brings out 112 I/Os, giving ample room for parallel LCD buses, keypad matrices, or multiple UART lines in a single design.
On-chip peripherals include DMA, programmable voltage detector (PVD), power-on reset (POR), brown-out reset (PDR), a temperature sensor, and a watchdog timer — enough to handle system supervision without external supervisor ICs. Two 12-bit DACs and a 16-channel 12-bit ADC handle analog feedback loops, such as current sensing in a motor drive or pressure transducer readout.
An internal oscillator is available, though a precision external crystal improves clock accuracy for time-sensitive UART baud rates or CAN timing.
STMicroelectronics lists the STM32F100ZET6BTR with an active lifecycle status. For BOM planning, this removes the urgency to qualify a second source today, though the STM32F100 series has been in the market long enough that a pin-compatible migration path to a higher-performance STM32F1 variant exists if the application later needs more than 24 MHz.
