600 V, 18 A — the voltage and current ceiling that defines the application
The STGD10HF60KD is an automotive-grade IGBT from STMicroelectronics, rated at 600 V collector-emitter breakdown with 18 A continuous collector current. That voltage class puts it in the sweet spot for 3-phase motor drives in 48 V to 400 V bus systems, PFC stages, and DC-DC converters in hybrid and electric vehicle auxiliary power trains.
With a total gate charge of 23 nC, the gate-driver power requirement stays modest — a standard 1 A driver can switch this IGBT well into the tens of kilohertz without excessive dissipation in the driver IC. The switching energy numbers — 45 µJ turn-on, 105 µJ turn-off under test conditions of 400 V, 5 A, 10 Ω gate resistor, 15 V gate drive — give a direct input for loss calculation. At 20 kHz switching, the per-device switching loss alone runs about 3 W, which the DPAK package can handle with adequate copper on the drain tab.
