Product details

The STF18N65M5: 650 V drain-source, 15 A continuous drain, 220 mOhm Rds(on) at 7.5 A, 10 V.

STMicroelectronics no longer manufactures this MDmesh V generation MOSFET in the TO-220FP package. New designs should not target this order code. For existing production, the only channel is the independent surplus market — traceable, tested stock sourced against an RFQ. No official ST successor has been published for this specific device; a functional replacement within the same voltage and current class would be a current-generation MDmesh part such as a comparable 650 V, 15 A N-channel MOSFET, but pin-for-pin compatibility and gate-drive requirements must be verified against the original PCB layout and thermal budget.

Package and thermal — the TO-220FP constraint

The TO-220 Full Pack (TO-220FP) is a fully isolated through-hole package with the metal tab encapsulated — no heatsink pad exposed, no electrical connection to the drain tab. For any design pulling more than a few amps average, a heatsink is mandatory, and the junction temperature must stay under 150°C. The mounting hole fits an M3 screw through the tab, but the plastic body means the heatsink interface relies on thermal grease or a pad across the full back surface.

Frequently asked questions

Is the STF18N65M5 obsolete?

Yes, the STF18N65M5 carries an Obsolete product status. STMicroelectronics has discontinued this MDmesh V generation part in the TO-220FP package.

What is the difference between STF18N65M5 and STF18N65M2?

Both are 650 V, 15 A N-channel MOSFETs in the TO-220FP package from ST's MDmesh family. The STF18N65M5 is from the MDmesh V generation; the STF18N65M2 is from the MDmesh II generation. The M5 typically offers lower Rds(on) and gate charge, but the exact parametric differences — and whether either is still active — must be checked against current datasheets. The M2 may still be in production; the M5 is obsolete.
