The ST8024LCDR is a specialized interface IC from STMicroelectronics designed for smart card reader and writer applications. It handles the level shifting, power sequencing, and protection between the card slot and the host microcontroller. Supply voltage and card power budget
This range lets it power the card's VCC directly from the same rail the MCU runs on, simplifying the board's power tree. The wide input tolerance also means the part can sit on a 5V-only bus without a separate regulator — useful when retrofitting a smart card slot into an existing 5V design.
