The STMicroelectronics SPV1040TTR is a solar battery charger IC in an 8-TSSOP package, designed for harvesting energy from small photovoltaic panels into a rechargeable battery. It integrates over-current and over-temperature fault protection, and operates across a -40°C to 125°C junction temperature range — wide enough for outdoor solar installations or under-hood automotive auxiliary charging.
Fault protection and field reliability
Over-current and over-temperature protection are built in. That means the IC can handle a shorted battery or a stalled fan on the load side without blowing itself up — useful in a remote solar sensor node where nobody is coming to reset a fuse. The protection is self-recovering once the fault clears, so the system can ride through a temporary overload and keep charging.
Package and mounting
Surface-mount 8-TSSOP, 4.40 mm body width. That is a common footprint — same as a standard SOIC-8 but narrower. It reflows fine with a standard lead-free profile. The SPV1040TTR is available in Tape & Reel or Cut Tape, so you can order production reels or a few pieces for a prototype run.
