The MC34063ACN integrates a 1.5 A switch transistor — this is the peak current the internal switch can handle, not the continuous output current. For a buck converter at 33 kHz, the output current depends on the input-to-output voltage differential and inductor ripple. The adjustable output from 1.25 V to 38 V with positive or negative configuration covers single-rail to split-rail supplies. The 3 V minimum input allows operation from a 3.3 V rail or two-cell battery; the 40 V maximum input suits 24 V industrial buses with margin.
Through-hole 8-DIP — board integration and sourcing
The 8-DIP through-hole package is a legacy footprint — it is easy to hand-assemble and rework, but the 0.300-inch row spacing occupies more board area than a surface-mount equivalent. Supplied in tube, typical reel quantities are not applicable.
Do not use in automotive or industrial enclosures where ambient temperature exceeds 70°C without active cooling.
