Its PSRR of 80 dB to 65 dB at 120 Hz makes it a reasonable choice for post-filter regulation in analog supply rails where ripple rejection matters — think op-amp front-ends or low-noise sensor bias. The 8-SOIC footprint (0.154" wide, 3.90 mm body width) is the key difference from the more common TO-220 LM317 variants — this part is meant for reflow assembly and space-constrained boards, not through-hole heatsink mounting.
