LD1117DTR — adjustable LDO in 8-SOIC, now obsolete
The STMicroelectronics LD1117DTR is an adjustable positive low-dropout voltage regulator delivering up to 800 mA. It comes in an 8-SOIC surface-mount package — a standard footprint that places cleanly on a pick-and-place line without special handling. Key protection features include over-current and over-temperature shutdown. The quiescent current is 5 mA, typical for a general-purpose LDO of this output class.
The LD1117DTR provides 75 dB ripple rejection at 120 Hz. The 1.2 V maximum dropout at 800 mA means the input must stay at least 1.2 V above the programmed output voltage at full load.
For new designs, ST recommends evaluating current-production LDOs in the LD1117 family or a comparable adjustable LDO from another vendor. The 8-SOIC package is standard and the adjustable output topology is widely second-sourced, so a pin-compatible alternate from another manufacturer is a practical option for dual-sourcing.
