Fixed 1.8V rail, 1.5A capacity, D2PAK footprint
The LD1086D2T18TR is a fixed-output positive LDO from STMicroelectronics' LD1086 family, delivering 1.5 A at a regulated 1.8 V from a single regulator. The D2PAK (TO-263-3) surface-mount package with exposed tab pulls heat into the board copper — the thermal pad area on the PCB sets the effective current ceiling, not the die itself. Input voltage range extends to 30 V max, so it sits comfortably on a 24 V industrial rail or a 12 V automotive bus with margin for transients. Dropout is 1.5 V max at full load — the input rail must stay above 3.3 V to maintain regulation at 1.8 V out. PSRR is 82 dB at 120 Hz, meaning the output rejects line-frequency ripple from a rectified AC supply or a switching pre-regulator by a factor of roughly 12,600 — clean enough to feed a sensitive analog front-end or a precision reference without a post-filter.
Industrial temp range, basic fault protection
The 10 mA quiescent current is moderate — fine for always-on rails in a control module, but not suited for a battery-powered sensor that sleeps months. On-chip protection includes over-current and over-temperature shutdown. These are basic fault containment features — they prevent die damage under a shorted output or a thermal runaway event, but the LDO does not include reverse-current protection or an enable pin. If the output is forced above the input, the internal parasitic diode conducts; the board design should block that path.
