The L6982NDR is a step-down (buck) switching regulator from STMicroelectronics, delivering up to 2 A continuous output from a 3.5 V to 38 V input rail — covering 5 V, 12 V, and 24 V industrial buses without a pre-regulator. The integrated synchronous rectifier eliminates the external catch diode, reducing BOM count and improving efficiency at light loads — the low-side FET replaces the diode's forward drop with a resistive channel. Switching at 400 kHz keeps the inductor and output capacitor small enough for space-constrained 8-SOIC layouts, while staying below the AM band to simplify conducted-emission filtering.

The adjustable output can be set from 0.85 V up to 38 V using a resistor divider — the 0.85 V minimum allows powering low-voltage cores like 1.2 V or 1.8 V logic directly from a 12 V bus. Rated for junction temperatures from -40°C to +150°C, the part suits industrial enclosures and under-hood automotive environments where ambient heat pushes the die above 125°C. The 8-SOIC package with a 3.90 mm body width fits standard SOIC-8 footprints; the exposed pad on the 8-SO variant should be soldered to a copper pour on the PCB to pull heat from the die.
